Virtualization is a technique to separate out a service from the underlying physical delivery of that service which allows to share a single physical instance of a resource or an application among multiple customers and organizations at one time.

This mostly involves decoupling the logical network functions from the hardware platform and moving the software-only implementation of these functions to general-purpose high-performance servers using some virtualization framework
